Student Conference Travel Award
About the Award
A total of $5,000 will be awarded to 10 different students ($500 each) to help offset conference travel costs and provide opportunities for students to attend and present their sport data science-related research at leading conferences during the 2026 calendar year.
Qualifications for Award
Items to submit
Students must be a co-author on the conference abstract. Conferences may be located anywhere and focused on any academic field, including analytics, economics, mathematics, statistics, or sport management and/or science, as long as the student’s research is focused on sport data science.
In order to be considered, the following should be saved as a one-page pdf and submitted as an email attachment to csds@tamu.edu:
- Name of student
- Institution, major(s), and whether the student is an undergraduate or graduate student
- Conference, location, and date
- Status of abstract (Either in progress, submitted or accepted)
- Conference abstract (Usually 150-500 words, must match abstract either submitted or to be submitted to conference)
- 150-word biosketch of student
Deadlines
There are two deadlines based on when the conference is scheduled, in order to distribute awards to students when they are most needed. The deadline for conferences scheduled for January-June is February 1, 2026, while the deadline for conferences scheduled for July-December is August 1, 2026. Eligible travel must take place between January 1-December 31, 2026. Applications will be reviewed by at least two CSDS Faculty Fellows, who are listed on the CSDS website.
Final Steps
Prior to awards being distributed, awardees will be required to provide proof of conference registration and acceptance of their abstract in the conference program. Awardees must be a full-time student at the time of travel. Note that these awards are not a grant, and therefore no receipts or other documentation need to be provided. The goal of this program is to simply encourage students to present their work at leading conferences by helping to offset costs incurred by students in the course of their attendance at the conference.
